THE BEAUTY OF THE PROVENCE

Scalecast has introduced a new range of Traditional Provençal Houses, allowing model enthusiasts to acquire, download, and print these charming structures. These models capture the essence of quaint Provençal settings, evoking the tranquil beauty of rural France.
The Provençal Style
Traditional Provençal houses are known for their rustic charm, featuring stone walls, terracotta roofs, and wooden shutters. These homes are often nestled in rolling countryside, lavender fields, or near vineyards, creating a peaceful and picturesque atmosphere. The architecture reflects the Mediterranean climate, with thick walls for insulation and shaded courtyards for relaxation.

Enhancing the Setting
Place your Provençal houses among cobbled streets, vineyards, or sun-drenched courtyards with tiny market stalls, carts, or classic French signage. A couple of miniature villagers enjoying coffee under a shaded terrace brings the scene to life!
Painting Guide
  • Stone Walls: Use earthy tones like beige, ochre, or warm greys. Dry brushing a lighter shade over a darker base creates a textured stone effect.
  • Terracotta Roof Tiles: A base of burnt orange or red-brown, followed by subtle weathering with darker washes, adds depth and realism.
  • Wooden Shutters & Doors: Go for pastel blues, greens, or muted greys—Provençal homes often have soft, sun-faded colours.
  • Window Details: Hand-painting delicate cracks or chips adds a worn charm. You can also create realistic glass reflections with a light coat of glossy varnish.
Weathering & Finishing Touches
  • Moss & Lichen: Dab a mix of green and brown pigments on walls and roofs for a natural, aged effect.
  • Dust & Dirt: Dry brushing with soft browns or diluted washes simulates the dust of the Mediterranean countryside.
  • Overgrown Vegetation: Use miniature ivy, lavender bushes, or climbing vines to make scenes feel alive and tranquil.
